Claus Bertermann (b. 1965, Stuttgart) studied architecture at TUM before fully committing to abstract expressionism. Influenced by his grandfather, painter Guillermo Castañeda, and artists like Baselitz and Basquiat, he explores transience through layered compositions, scratching through paint to reveal hidden depths. Rejecting rigid structures, he paints intuitively on a large scale. His work is internationally recognized, with a 2019 solo exhibition at BBVA in Spain and a major 2024 triptych donation to TUM. Since 2024, he is exclusively represented by Belgian agent Jos De Troyer.
